Mukham karoti…
Today we had a TOVP Creative Committed Exhibition meeting from 7.30 to 9.30 Then our physical therapy and then all day long, 10 am till 8 pm the Indian governing council bureau meeting, which happened in Pune, and I attended by internet. Then I took some prasad at 8, and now I am here to give a class. I hope that I would get some transcendental bliss!
Caitanya Carita Mahakaavya:
Then on one side, the vaishnavi women brought pots of Ganges water, so that Srivas could offer that as abhishek. In the water there was camphor, agaru and other very valuable scents, which were placed in the water, and that, very joyfully Srivas bathed Mahaprabhu with the abhishek, offering all these valuable items.
Caitanya Bhagavat Madhya Kanda:
Then the water was mixed with auspicious camphor and four kinds of scents, etc. And the water was thus procured, and prepared very joyfully, combined with pure love and devotion.
Haribhakti Vilas 6.115 quotes the Garuda purana as follows:
“Chatushamah consists of 2 portions of musk, 4 portions of sandalwood, 3 portions of kum kuma, and one portion of camphor.” Chatushamah ki jai! Caitanya Mahaprabhu abhishek ji jai! Hare Krishna!
The tumultuous sound of jai jai, ladies chanting ulu dhwani, here they don’t know! (Then the ladies did ulu dhwani in the audience) and women chanting Haribol! Haribol! Jai! Haribol! And all around the tumultuous sound was vibrating. And many began chanting the abhishek mantras which they recited, reading from the scripture.
First Sri Nityananda prabhu sang Jaya Jaya, and He poured on the Lord’s divine head, some of this scented Ganges water with great joy.
From behind the scenes, tumultuous sweet sounds of Purusha Shukta prayers could be heard.
Advaita, Srivas and other exalted devotees, they bathed the Lord while reciting the Purusha Shukta mantras. So this Purusha Shukta glorifies the Lord’s universal form as having thousand heads, thousand eyes, thousand feet and it contains all the living entities. So He pervades the whole universe, completely to give it excellence, as being completely independent, He expands Himself beyond the universe. So the first prayers are :
Om sahasrasirsaa Purusha, saharsaaksha sahaasrapaat, sa bhumiim vishvato vrtvaa, atyatisthadda shaangulam. Like this the Purusha Shukta mantra goes on. So it is a long mantra as the Lord is unlimited. Ha!
Caitanya Bhagavat:
So Lord Gauranga’s devotees were all expert at chanting the Mahamantra and they chanted different mantras and joyfully poured water on the head of the Lord.
The devotees headed by Mukunda Das sang auspicious abhishek songs and some devotees were crying and some devotees danced and some became overwhelmed in ecstasy.
The chaste married women made auspicious sounds like ulu dhwani, jai jai kaar! Everyone’s hearts became overwhelmed with ecstasy.
Lord Gauranga, the Lord of Vaikuntha, He was seated on the throne of Vishnu and the devotees poured Ganges water on His head, in great bliss.
Caitanya Carita Mahakaavya:
At that time, Gauranga Mahaprabhu was appearing like gold, in His golden colored body and golden effulgence which was emanating from Him, all the abhishek waters, after falling from His body, also became gold in color because of the intense, gold, effulgence emanating from His body.
Then the earth, taking the abhishek bathing water which came over the body of Gaurachandra, was excepted by mother earth as her glory, and she was very grateful and happy for the blessing.
Caitanya Chandrodaya Naataka:
So this is written in Sanskrit which I don’t know, so I will take the translation here. Kali is watching: “Oh wonderful! Wonderful! (guru maharaj repeats with great enthusiasm and asks the repeater to also do so) just as the Ganges flows down from Brahma’s kamandalu constantly, flooding mount Sumeru, the great abhishek water flowing from Lord Gauranga’s body falls on the earth, and floods the four directions of the world!”
Haribol! GAuuuuuuuuuuuranga!
Caitanya Bhagavat Madhya Kanda:
There were supposed to be 108 pots of water, but actually a thousand pots could not hold all the water that appeared there! You see, ordinarily for some auspicious occasions, the number 108 is considered important, but in this case it was hundreds and hundreds! The procedure for bathing the Lord is mentioned and described in the Haribhakti Vilas 19.88 as follows:
“According to one’s capacity one should bathe the Lord with gold, silver, copper, bell metal or clay pots of water numbering 1500, 250, 108, 64, 32, 16or 4. “
Thus ends the chapter entitled Lord’s abhishek by devotees under the section 21-hour ecstasy. Haribol!
Nitai Gauranga, Nitai Gauranga! Nitai Gauranga! Nitai Gauranga!
So what questions are present?
We have more devotees on internet tonight than before! Welcome!! (259 as of now)
Any questions?
Haribol! Haribol! Gauranga Mahaprabhu’s Abhishek!
