Jayapatākā Swami: Generally, many people would have wanted to join and go with Him. In South India the Caitanya-Caritāmṛta is describing there was a kūrma brāhmaṇa, there is a description that he said, ‘I will give up my family and join with you. Lord Caitanya said, ‘please don’t become a monkey renunciant. You can be in family, you can chant the holy name and you can preach.’ And Lord Caitanya ordered him whoever you see ask them to chant the holy name of the Lord, yāre dekho tāre kāho Kṛṣṇa upadeśa. And in this way giving up the family to leave like that is not right. In a similarly way, He instructed Raghunātha dāsa also. But when Raghunātha dāsa wanted to come, then when Lord Nityānanda showed mercy to Raghunātha dāsa, then Lord Caitanya accepted Raghunātha dāsa. Lord Nityānanda is the original spiritual master. Without the mercy of Lord Nityānanda we cannot get the mercy of Lord Caitanya. So in this way, by the mercy of Lord Nityānanda he got the opportunity to approach Lord Caitanya. If we go directly to Lord Caitanya and if we don’t get the mercy of Lord Nityānanda, then Lord Caitanya may not accept us. Through the guru and through Lord Nityānanda one should approach.
